The study of Flags is known as vexillology. Now you know your big word for the day. The first flags were used to assist on the battlefield. Most flags are rectangles, but not all of them. The state of Ohio has a triangular banner and the country of Nepal has a flag that is a double triangle. Most national flags have blue, yellow, black, green, red or white. For this reason, they were selected as the colors for the Olympic flag.
